The City of Dalton is seeking a highly capable, forward-thinking professional to serve as its next Human Resources Director. The successful candidate will be a confident, approachable leader who brings broad human resources expertise and a passion for helping employees thrive in a dynamic public-sector environment. The Director will be both a strategic advisor and a hands- on problem-solver, able to build trust across all levels of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in benefits administration, employee relations, compliance, and policy development. Experience navigating the complexities of a municipal organization is strongly preferred. The Director must be comfortable leading a small team, advising department heads on sensitive personnel matters, and collaborating with leadership on organization-wide initiatives.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The Director must be able to translate complex policies into clear guidance, foster a culture of respect, and motivate others toward excellence. A background in leadership development and employee engagement will be especially valuable as the City aims to modernize its training offerings and reinforce a customer service-focused culture.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least 5-7 years progressive experience as a human resources generalist, preferably in a public sector environment.
- SHRM-CP and/or PHR national certification (SHRM-SCP and/or SPHR certification(s) preferred).

The approximate starting annual salary for this position is $97,000 (depending on qualifications), with a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance options, a highly competitive defined contribution plan, tuition reimbursement, and a generous leave package.
